The video installation in the Archivio di Stato di Palermo (State Archives of Palermo) is inspired by the vicissitudes of the film director Vittorio De Seta. He was subjectedmany times to the control of the authoritiesbecause his art wassuspected of concealing a hidden agenda in favour of “communist” subversive societies. These suspicionswere found in a folder discovered by the artists between thousands of un-catalogueddocuments that time has transformed into stratifiedmatter, paper fossils, dust and faded ink. Dated 1956, it contains numerous dossiers and reports concerning artists, directors, writers and journalists. The image of a puppet because it is a sculptural object capable of absorbing images of controlled moods within itself, thus amplifying its ownliving and disturbing significance, conveying a senseof mystery and emotionality.The puppet is the metaphor of an artist. The artist is a man who frees things even when he is himself tied up and controlled.
La videoinstallazione presso l’Archivio di Stato di Palermo si ispira alle vicende del regista Vittorio De Seta, più volte controllato dalle autorità perché la sua arte era sospettata di nascondere un’agenda nascosta a favore delle società sovversive “comuniste”.Questi sospetti si trovano in una cartella datata 1956, che contiene numerosi dossier e reportage riguardanti artisti, registi, scrittori e giornalisti, che gli artisti hanno scoperto tra migliaia di documenti non catalogati trasformati dal tempo in materia stratificata, fossili di carta, polvere e inchiostro sbiadito. L’immagine di un burattino è un oggetto scultoreo in grado di assorbire al proprio interno immagini di stati d’animo controllati, amplificando così il proprio significato vivo e inquietante, trasmettendo un senso di mistero ed emotività. Il burattino è la metafora di un artista. L’artista è un uomo che libera le cose anche quando è lui stesso legato e controllato.
