ICA Milano – Istituto Contemporaneo per le Arti continues its programme with a new project, the solo exhibition of Masbedo, artistic duo formed by Nicolò Massazza (1973) and Iacopo Bedogni (1970).
Why frontiers change is the title of the exhibition, curated by Alberto Salvadori, on view from Saturday, 12th October to Sunday 10th November 2019 on Fondazione ICA’s two floors.
The focus of the project is a reflection on the past and present history of Sicily, which has always been both everyone’s and no man’s land, mitopoietic place par excellence. The exhibition gathers pre-existent works, re-editions and new artworks, all originated in Sicilian lands and related to their social and cultural complexity. Elements of Sicily’s history blend with each other, like the story of the production house Panaria Film and the testimony of Palermo’s mayor Leoluca Orlando, famous references to the cinematography of Vittorio De Seta, Ugo Gregoretti, Francesco Rosi and Luchino Visconti and the issues related to the Tamil community of Palermo.
The exhibition also becomes the occasion to present the artists’ most cherished themes: cinema’s history and its relationship to performance, the image as a tool for reflection and memory’s divulgation, the importance of cultural actions and, at the same time, its performative dimension.
Through an Italian historical and cultural path, Masbedo reveal the creation of a dream, the cinematographic one, brought to life in the spaces of ICA. The artists activate in this way a reasoning on the cinema of the past, opening a reflection on history’s deported image and its capacity to influence cultural and performative actions.

Gli artisti sono quei viandanti, disertori, cercatori di verità nascoste, come scrive Emanuele Trevi, grazie ai quali possiamo e dobbiamo andare oltre la convenzione del limite che una frontiera impone; ecco perché le frontiere cambiano».

ICA Milano – Istituto Contemporaneo per le Arti prosegue la propria programmazione con un nuovo progetto espositivo inedito, la personale di Masbedo, duo artistico formato da Nicolò Massazza (1973) e Iacopo Bedogni (1970).
Perché le frontiere cambiano è il titolo della mostra, a cura di Alberto Salvadori, che da sabato 12 ottobre a domenica 10 novembre 2019, occuperà i due piani della Fondazione.
Focus del progetto è una riflessione sulla storia passata e presente della Sicilia, da sempre terra di tutti e di nessuno, luogo mitopoietico per eccellenza. La mostra raccoglie lavori preesistenti, riedizioni e opere inedite, tutti generatisi in territorio siciliano e legati alla sua complessità culturale e sociale. Si fondono tra loro elementi della storia siciliana, come la vicenda della casa di produzione Panaria Film e la testimonianza del sindaco di Palermo Leoluca Orlando, celebri riferimenti alla cinematografia dei registi Vittorio De Seta, Ugo Gregoretti, Francesco Rosi e Luchino Visconti, e le questioni legate alla comunità Tamil di Palermo.
La mostra diventa anche l’occasione per presentare i temi più cari agli artisti: la storia del cinema e il suo legame con la performance, l’immagine come strumento di riflessione e divulgazione della memoria, l’importanza dell’azione culturale e al tempo stesso la sua dimensione performativa.
Attraverso un percorso narrativo storico e culturale del tutto italiano, i Masbedo svelano la creazione di un sogno, quello cinematografico, riportato in vita negli spazi di ICA. Gli artisti attivano così un ragionamento sul cinema del passato, conducendo una riflessione sull’immagine deportata nella memoria e sulla sua capacità di influenzare le azioni culturali e performative.

La co-produzione esecutiva è affidata a Associazione Culturale AreaVideo.
